I try to do my part in preserving the Mother Earth by recycling, walking short distances rather than driving, bringing my own shopping bags to the supermarket and saying no to the plastic bags, not buying so many new things, but rather used stuff from flea markets and friends (thanks Saara, Heidi and Cheryle!), support our local farmers markets and even using eco-friendly cat litter Shweat Scoop Wheat Litter (clay-based kitty litter is actually helping to destroy mountains, because it is acquired through strip-mining AND takes several decades to biodegrade). I’ve also eliminated the use of toxic chemicals in cleaning our house and only use biodegradable, earth- and animal friendly products. This applies to most of my cosmetics as well.
But the biggest single thing you can do for earth is to go vegan. Eating meat is one of the worst things because it’s wasteful, causes enormous amounts of pollution, and the meat industry is one of the largest causes of climate change. Adopting a vegan diet is more important than switching to a “greener” car in the fight against climate change. Nuff said.
Eating meat doesn’t just hurt animals—it hurts people too. It takes tons of crops and water to raise farmed animals. In fact, it takes up to 13 pounds of grain to produce just 1 pound of animal flesh! All that plant food could be used much more efficiently if it were fed directly to people. The more people who go vegan, the more we can feed the hungry. If you are interested in making a real change and go vegan (or vegetarian at first) check out this “Vegetarian Starter Kit” (in English) or here (in Finnish). I’m also here to answer any questions you may have and help you along the way. Just comment or email me!
Do you part and make one change today to become more eco-friendly! Earth will thank you.
