Now that the temperatures are getting lower it’s time to upgrade your smoothie game to fit the weather. I personally feel cold most of the time and the thought of drinking something cold when it’s chilly in the house does not sound appealing one bit to me.
I do want to keep getting my nutrients in a handy, quick-to-make package (smoothie) and therefore I use these tricks to make smoothies tasty in every season.
First thing is to add warming spices like cinnamon, cardamon, ginger or even a dash of cayenne (great for releasing mucus, by the way). You can also use essential oils ginger, cardamon or cinnamon (but only Certified Therapeutic Grade like DoTERRA).
Instead of just plain water or plant-based milk, use cooled herbal teas. You can also add superfoods like Maca or Bee Pollen to boost energy and immunity, and plant-protein powder to keep you full longer. I also like adding some source of healthy fats like seeds (chia, almond butter, MTC oil).
My Winter Green Smoothie tastes a little like chocolate peppermint candy, yet it’s filled with tons of goodness to keep your body fighting all those cold season bugs.
Winter Green Smoothie
- 2 cups plant-based milk
- 2 cups kale (or any other leafy green)
- 1 pear
- 1 banana
- 1 tbsp raw cacao
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp peppermint oil (this is my favorite)
- (Optional: 1 tbsp chia seeds)
Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth, beginning low and slowly increasing the speed to high. Serve immediately or store in the fridge for up to 48 hrs. Smoothie storing tips here.
Normally I don’t like green things but this actually sounds pretty delicious! Thank you so much for sharing <3 xo Haley
