My 7 best natural beauty finds

I’ve been a Birchbox subscriber for almost a year now and once per month I receive a cute little box on my doorstep filled with natural beauty finds from make-up to shampoo to lotions (get your’s here!). Those that know me are aware that I’m not a cosmetics junkie one bit. I’m actually quite the minimalist. I have one powder, one shampoo, one face lotion, one eyeliner and so on, and I will not buy another one until the previous one has completely run out. I often go weeks without the product after it’s finished just because I dislike spending money on cosmetics. That’s just me. Never been the girly girl.

IMG_8613My basic skin care and make-up routine nowadays includes as little as possible: Rice bran polishing face wash from USANA, pure Argan oil as a face moisturizer (the only ingredient is argan oil), concealer from W3ll People, bronzer from Jing Ai, eyebrow powder from Anastasia Beverly Hills, tinted lip gloss from Yes to Carrots, eyeliner from Boots Botanics, toothpaste either from Tom’s or Earthpaste (I keep rotating) and aluminum-free deodorant from Kiss My Face. For body oil I use simply raw organic coconut oil or sesame oil, and do oil pulling with these same oils.

My top 7 best natural beauty finds are:

W3ll People Bio Correct Multi-Action Concealer

I just tried this the other day before work and when I walked in front of the mirror later that day I had to stop and take a second look because I looked so different! My reaction was “Wow! Damn girl!”. This is absolutely the best concealer I’ve ever tried. It even depuffs and brightens while concealing. It has organic algae, coffee, pomegranate and anti-aging peptides. It’s free from artificial preservatives, parabens, chemicals, dyes, fragrance, silicone, dimethicone, pthalates, sulphates, petroleum, talc, bismuth oxychloride and nanoparticles. Made in USA. Not tested on animals.

IMG_9820Jing Ai Bronzer

It smells like real roses (because it has them!) and gives my face that nice sun-kissed glow. I bought this bronzer at a mind-body expo in NJ and met the creator of the company as well. More about it on my previous post here. I love the story behind Jing Ai and the fact that I don’t have to worry about nasty toxins while wearing it.

Davroe Volume Senses Amplifying Shampoo

I’ve tried lots of different all-natural shampoos and many of them leave my hair flat and rough, and my fine Nordic hair needs all the help it can get when it comes to volume and shine. I was so happy after receiving this tester in my Birchbox because it really gave my hair body and shine! No petrochemicals, sulphates, parabens or animal-testing, and it’s 100% vegan, made in Australia. Of course, hair health starts on the inside, but external boost doesn’t hurt either (as long as your products don’t have nasties!).

Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask

I don’t use masks often, but I think that with all this sun here in California it would be a good idea to nourish my skin better since I spent time outdoors way more than when I was living on the East Coast. The Resurfacing Mask can also be used as a spot treatment for pimples. Tata Harper’s products are 100% natural and 100% non-toxic. Why this mask is the bomb: Pomegranate Enzymes provide deep cleansing and pore minimization, French Pink Clay reduces the appearance of pores and helps detoxify skin while White Willow eliminates dead skin cells and promotes cellular renewal.

Boots Botanics Eyeliner

I don’t wear too much eyeliner anymore, but sometimes I like a little cat-eye, being the crazy cat lady :). This eyeliner has gently conditioning jojoba oil and is free of parabens and mineral-oils. It glides on smoothly and lasts all day. Great find from Target!

Argan Magic 100% Pure Argan Oil

Oil is not the best option for all skin types, but for mine it works well. I’ve been using this product for years now, every now and then trying something new, but eventually ending up going back to it. Since you only need very little of it, it lasts a long, long time saving me a big buck.

100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream

I’ve mentioned this product many times before, but it is just my absolute favorite. It smells so delicious I want to eat it and goes on lightly. I usually put it on in the mornings and before bed.

  1. Thanks for this!!! It’s a STRUGGLE to find conscious products that are actually good quality! xo

    1. My pleasure to share Amber-Lee!

  2. It is so hard to find beauty products that are truly natural but also WORK! I have a hard time with shampoo too! All of the “organic” ones I have tried have left my hair feeling rough. I am excited to try out some of these products. Especially the eyeliner found in Target haha!

    1. Yes! Shampoo and deodorants have been hard to find. But I’m uber-happy with Davroe! It just might be worth the price 🙂

  3. The one deodorant I’ve found to actually work for me (I tend to stink in stressful times) is Lavanila. The citrus one made my skin a bit red, but the other scents have been great.

I can’t get a good enough all-day result from any of the others, crystal, tea tree etc., and I’ve tried literally dozens… Another really great one, although not available in the US, is one called Madara.

    1. I have the crystal and it works ok for me, but the stress-sweat is hard to beat with naturals. I get that at work…

In Finland I actually have Madara that I keep in my parent’s guestroom so I can use it when I visit. I don’t know why I don’t just bring it with me here because it really is good. Lavanila I’ve never tried, I think that’ll be my next test subject. Thanks for the tip Lilli!

  4. This is a great review! It is hard to find products that don’t have yuck stuff in them that people actually like. Does birchbox send mostly natural beauty products or a combination?

    1. Hi Mel! You create a profile where you state your preferences and maybe because mine says low maintenance, organic and natural I get mostly natural products. I’ve used Environmental Working groups Skin Deep app that scans your product and rates it for toxicity and the results have been great! I think it’s actually now called EWG’s Healthy Living app.
